Welcome to the New York Chapter of the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing’s home on the Web! We are delighted that you are interested in this great organization.
We are Nicki Turano and Ana Maria Robben, and we are the new NY Chapter presidents. Along with our board members, we are filled with pride at the strength and dedication of the AG Bell community. AG Bell helps families, health care providers and education professionals understand childhood hearing loss and the importance of early diagnosis and intervention. Through advocacy, education, research and financial aid, AG Bell helps to ensure that every child and adult with hearing loss has the opportunity to listen, talk and thrive in mainstream society. The NY Chapter supports AG Bell’s mission: Advocating Independence through Listening and Talking!
As your new chapter co-Presidents, we are looking forward to serving you, NY Chapter of AG Bell, with the same passion and dedication that those before us have. We invite you to explore our Web site (www.agbellnewyork.org) and get to know more about what we have to offer. Check back often. We’ve already had our first chapter meeting (see 10/16 meeting notes) and had a family picnic at Saxon Woods (see 9/21 picnic photos). We will have links to what educational opportunities are available in our area, updates on legislation that affects the deaf/hard of hearing community, a new listserv, networking events you may be interested in attending, and more! Also, if you’re organizing an event in your area that serves our community, please let us know. We’d be happy to post that information on the site as well.
These are exciting times at AG Bell, and we want you to be a part of it. In a few weeks, we’ll be sending out a survey to find out what you’re looking for from the NY Chapter of AG Bell. Please take the time to complete the survey. It will help provide us with the direction and understanding we need to serve the NY community of AG Bell.
